![]() ![]() I find Windows too aggressive, Mac should be a bit "slower". I know preferences are different, but 30 cm or 12 inch just to move the mouse from the left to the right of an iMac 1680px screen is totally STUPID!! If it's really jerky it could be a hardware problem (wireless)?ĭifferent?!? STUPID and USELESS would be the word for OS X. I know I can adjust the setting but (although I don't require a really fast setting) whatever you do it's NO WAY fast enough. And, I still need a football field to be able to click the user picture on the login screen where I CANNOT adjust the setting. My desk is not large enough to allow moving the mouse from the left to the right with OS X standard settings. ![]() So NO, this is NOT a question of getting used to it. So don't bother playing around with the settings but get USB Overdrive or Speedmouse (which I prefer) and consider this another Apple tax. Steermouse vs usb overdrive Pc#Īnd don't care what other people say to justify this STUPID AND USELESS OS X settings.īy the way, I can accept there are different standards in Win and OS X, and I'm getting used to it although I'm using a PC 12 hours a day and a Mac another 2 hours or so. If it's getting too hard I use some tools to change modifier key etc. God, why do people in these threads still insist opinion is fact? But the mouse speed and acceleration range is just STUPID and USELESS (I didn't say that before, did I). In my empirical, not-backed-up-by-actual-knowledge-of-the-acceleration-curves experience, Windows has a flatter acceleration curve than the Mac. ![]() Every Windows computer I've ever used has had the sensitivity jacked through the roof, in order to provide quick long-distance movement at (IMHO) the expense of short-distance precision. My Mac-trained muscles overshoot everything on such a setup. That's because, on a Mac, to move a long distance you move the mouse a lot faster than you would to move a short distance this doesn't work out so hot on Windows. Our crowd-sourced lists contains more than 10 apps similar to. I crank the sensitivity down on Windows to compensate for this, but it's never perfect. The best USB Overdrive alternatives are X-Mouse Button Control, SteerMouse and LinearMouse. Of course, most Windows users I know who sit down in front of a Mac immediately jack the sensitivity way up in order to more closely approximate their accustomed long-distance mousing speed. This doesn't work out so hot either, because they then have no short-distance precision to speak of. ![]() There is no good solution to this but a willingness to practice and acclimatize. In my subjective opinion, the Mac curve provides a better balance between quick long-distance movement and short-distance precision than does the Windows curve. Indispensable, if only for the snap-to-default button feature.Īlso, whatever you decide on, I recommend skipping manufacturer software and using SteerMouse instead to adjust sensitivity, acceleration and button mappings.View image here: -Īlso, in my experience, Logitech mice are extremely sensitive. Scrolling on macOS sucks with third-party mice, but I just found a game-changer.But didn’t put any specific configuration for arc. Will I use steermouse to configure the mouse. There are 3rd party apps like Steer Mouse that let you re-assign buttons/shortcuts on a Mac, but I haven’t used them in a long while, so can’t really speak to compatibility. My Search for the One Mouse to rule them all - on Mac I’m not sure how it stacks up to this open source project, but it’s definitely been worth the license cost to me over the years. I’m eager to try this out, but you might also want to check out Steermouse, which is a utility it took me years longer to discover than it should have.
